Presta™ Mechanical Splice for Deep Water

Product Description

Our Presta™ Deep Water Mechanical Splice with k-PaC™ Technology is pressure balanced to offer superior performance and ease of use in deep water offshore environments.

Simplicity - Cable ends are prepared with a crimped-on electrical contact and simply pushed into the new splice. This splice matches or exceeds long-term performance of taped splices, while reducing splicing time to less than 90 minutes.

Versatility - This splice offers the ability to change cable types or sizes on either side of the Presta™ Mechanical Splice. Splices can be installed in parallel or staggered configuration when space constrained. Phase-change splicing can be accommodated. Presta™ Deep Water Mechanical Splice has protector configurations for severe or deviated applications.

Reliability - All primary pressure blocks and external tube seals are metal-to-metal. The Presta™ Deep Water splice has been tested with severe and repetitive pressure decompressions and undergone extensive pressure cycling as part of its qualification. Qualification test data point to superior downhole lifetimes.

FAQs

Since Presta Splices use a viscous dielectric to ensure good electrical properties, how many pressure cycles can the splices endure before the loss of dielectric affects performance?

Testing has demonstrated that the loss of dielectric material from the splice is so small as to be undetectible. Material loss is not a factor in the life of the connector.

Using the Presta Splice requires the removal of cable armor and cable jacketing. Does this leave lead-sheathing exposed to the evnironment and possible damage?

Short sections of lead-sheathed cables are exposed directly to the environment following splicing. The lead sheathing is covered with steel braiding in those locations to prevent handling damage to the lead. As with all high performance splices, taped or pre-fabricated, the spliced sections of cable must be adequately protected from abrasion by the installation of a suitable protector device.

What benefit does arc-resistant PEEK material provide?

This product uses an arc-resistant PEEK material that provides additional fire safety and enables quicker delivery.

Which cable sizes can I use with the Presta Splice?

Presta Splices are suitable for use with Lead-Sheathed cables, AWG 4, AWG 2, and AWG 1. Presta Splices can also be used with non-lead-sheathed cables up to aWG 1/0.

Will high decompression rates destroy the Presa Splice?

The Presta Splice has been tested in situations of extreme decompression. In every test, the splice continued to perform normally, although there were instances of severe cable damage outside of the splice.
